What in the WATTS! Presidential Award

As the harsh Winter weather is upon us, we turn on our heaters, light our fireplaces, and hunker down in our homes wrapped up in warm blankets while eating a bowl of homemade chili to warm our bones.  Our only concern after the holidays, is the countdown to Spring, warm weather, Baseball season, boating and swimming pools.  But did you know this is not the reality for everyone in our area?  For many in our area their concerns are much greater, where is their next meal going to come from, where are they going to sleep tonight, will they have shelter from the bitter cold weather.  That’s where WATTS (Winchester Area Temporary Thermal Shelter) comes in.

Just What is WATTS?

WATTS works with area churches, businesses and individuals to provide safe shelter and meals for the homeless in our area.  They also “empower individuals to re-enter the workforce and connect individuals to the resources needed to be as self-sufficient as possible”.

Since 2013 Johnny Blue Inc has been supporting the efforts of WATTS.  We not only provide restroom rentals, but we also provide pumping services for their shower trailers.  And our support does not stop there.  We provide a monetary donation, yearly, to further support their mission. These efforts allow WATTS to provide essential amenities, amenities we take for granted, to those in need.

WATTS President’s Award

Much to our surprise, to acknowledge our continued support, Johnny Blue was awarded the WATTS President’s Award at a 2024 fundraiser. This award is presented to the most outstanding donors and volunteers to recognize the impact they make on our community.  This experience was so fulfilling yet humbling, knowing the immense efforts taken by so many to make the shelter happen each year.

We Are, Once Again Participating in the Coldest Night of the Year Fundraiser

Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY) is a fundraising walk that takes place in cities across the United States and Canada every year on the last Saturday in February.  It is a chance for all to come together in unity to raise funds for charities helping to fight homelessness.  Although this event is held nationally, the funds raised stay local.  WATTS is a charity partner for CNOY Winchester.

Members of the Johnny Blue Crew will, once again be joining the Coldest Night of the Year Walk. Come walk with us, February 22nd, 4pm – 7pm at Braddock Street UMC. Unable to join us but still want to help the Johnny Blue Team help WATTS, donate here!
